Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, who played the character of investigating officer Ashwin Kumar in the 2015 Meghna Gulzar film titled Talvar based on the Aarushi Talwar-Hemraj double murder case, has reacted to the acquittal of Aarushi’s parents Rajesh and Nupur Talwar. The Talwar couple was accused of the murder of their only child Aarushi back in 2008 and was pronounced guilty in the case by a Ghaziabad court in 2013.
However, the Allahabad High Court, on Thursday, acquitted both Rajesh and Nupur Talwar citing the lack of evidence and circumstances for them to be held guilty. Reacting to the Aarushi Talwar verdict, Irrfan said, “The court of law has in its eyes given justice to a case. The Talwar family have finally had the truth by their side and justice has been served in the right order,” reports Hindustan Times.
The report also quoted the director of the film Talvar as saying, “The immediate emotion that engulfed me when I first heard the Rajesh and Nupur Talwar had been acquitted by the Allahabad High Court was of immense relief. Since then newspapers and TV reporters have been calling me incessantly. I haven’t had time to analyse the judgement on my own, but for now the Talwars will walk free.”
Vishal Bhardwaj, the producer of Talvar told HT that many had questioned them back when they made the film Talvar despite the fact that the makers didn’t take any sides in presenting the story and kept it as neutral as it could have been. ” I am overwhelmed and relieved to hear of the Talwars’ acquittal and this strengthens my faith in the Indian judicial system. However, it still pains me when I think about the precious years lost in prison and the emotional trauma that the parents had to go through, so much so that they couldn’t even mourn their own daughter’s demise,” Bhardwaj was quoted as saying.
Actor Neeraj Kabi, who essayed Rajesh Talwar in the film told HT, “What strikes me instantly without a second thought is happiness for two human beings. They have been caged behind bars, and are finally set free. My prayers and good wishes are with them as they will now be able to lead a normal life. At the same time, when they are about to begin their life afresh, the most difficult part would be dealing with living a life without their daughter. More so, because it was not a natural death, she was murdered.”
