Director Ron Howard just created 'The Jungle Book' and 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' connection

Director Jon Favreau has joined the cast of Solo: A Star Wars Story as the voice of an alien.

Favreau had shared a photo of himself alongside the Solo director, Ron Howard, and its writer Lawrence Kasdan on Twitter earlier this month.

Howard retweeted the picture and revealed the reason for the three to come together.

“Wondering why we are all together? Jon Favreau is voicing a very cool and important alien character for Han Solo. Flattered and fortunate I could pull him away from his Lion King directing duties,” Howard posted.

The director, however, ruled out a similar role for himself.

Asked by a fan if he would voice a character, he replied: “Nope. Zero chance. But thanks for asking (sic)” Favreau has previously voiced Pre Vizsla in several series of animated spin-off Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

This is not the first time this kind of cameo is made in one of the Star Wars movies.

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mission Impossible star Simon Pegg played an alien called Unkar Plutt on the planet Jakku who keeps Millennium Falcon on his dumping ground. James Bond star Daniel Craig played a Stormtrooper in the same movie. Comedians Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz were responsible for the noises BB-8 makes on screen. Tony Award-winning playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote two songs for the movie and sang, along with director JJ Abrams, for cantina band at Maz Katana’s tavern.

Taking a clue from Daniel Craig, Prince William and Prince Harry of the United Kingdom played Stormtroopers in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. They were joined by The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy. Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt played alien named Slowen-Lo. Justin Theroux played the Master Codebreaker for one scene while directors Edgar Wright and Gareth Edwards played the Resistance soldiers.

While Howard is gearing up to release Solo: A Star Wars Story on May 25, 2018, Favreau is busy directing the live-action version of Disney classic animation The Lion King.
