Nawazuddin Siddiqui to Reunite with Tannishtha Chatterjee for her directorial debut | Hindi Movie News
Mirror has learnt that Tannishtha is gearing up to make her directorial debut with a true story with Nawaz as the lead. “Nawaz and I have the most vibrant creative discussions and through so many years of conversations, we thought it is almost an organic culmination that we now tell a story that we would ourselves like to watch,” Tannishtha said, adding that during the shooting of ‘Lion’, she had told him about a book she wanted to adapt. “Then, I experienced a very strange incident during one of my travels to a film festival and immediately sounded him out. Nawaz was equally intrigued, and we decided to bring the experience to the screen. We will probably adapt the book some other time.”
Tannishtha, who has started work on the pre-production and is aiming to start shooting later this year, has been friends with Nawaz — who was her senior at National School of Drama — for over 14 years.
“We share a wonderful creative rapport. When Tannishtha narrated the story, I figured it would make for a good film. The idea started from there and we kept meeting and talking about it. Now, it’s time to execute those ideas,” said Nawaz, who recently completed the dubbing for Ritesh Batra’s Photograph and is shooting for Abhijit Panse’s biopic on the late politician ‘Bal Thackeray’.
Ask Tannishtha what took her so long to turn director and she said, “When Nawaz heard the story, he encouraged me to write and direct it. I have been wanting to turn director for a while now but had to wait for the perfect story.”
The film is produced by Eros International, Pankaj Razdan and Ravi Walia. “Tannishtha and Nawaz are extremely accomplished performers and it is exciting to have such talent come together,” said Ridhima Lulla, Chief Content Officer, Eros International.
