Soorma Box Office Collection Day 1{₹ 3.25 Crore}:Diljit Dosanjh’s film faces stiff competition from Ant-Man and the Wasp

Hockey legend Sandeep Singh‘s biopic ‘Soorma‘ which stars Diljit Dosanjh in the lead, got released on July 13. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter early on July 14 to reveal the first day collections of the Shaad Ali directorial and as per his calculations the sports drama grossed Rs 3.25 crore on its opening day. The film benefitted hugely from Diljit‘s popularity in North India. 

“After a slow start in morning shows [North India opening was good due to Diljit Dosanjh’s stardom], #Soorma gathered momentum from evening onwards… Is looking at substantial growth on Sat and Sun thanks to strong word of mouth… Fri ₹ 3.25 cr. India biz,” he wrote.

‘Soorma’ is clearly facing stiff competition from Marvel’s 20th film ‘Ant-Man And The Wasp’. The latter opened to Rs 7.05 crore in India. The film’s net earnings, according to trade reports, is Rs 5.5 crore. 

Tweeting the figures, Taran Adarsh wrote, “Hollywood continues to consolidate its presence in India… #AntManAndTheWasp springs a surprise… Packs a SOLID PUNCH on Day 1… Fri Rs 5.50 cr Nett BOC… Gross BOC: Rs 7.05 cr… India biz… All languages.” 

‘Soorma’ is however expected to gain momemtum over the weekend. Punjabi singer and actor, Diljit Dosanjh, has been receiving love from all quarters for his earnest portrayal of Sandeep Singh. In the special screening that was organised by the team, Bollywood celebs like Shabana Azmi, Divya Dutta among others had given a thumbs up to the film. 

Taran Adarsh had earlier revealed that ‘Soorma’ had released in over 1,100 screens in India and more than 1,435 screens worlwide. The film, that also stars Taapsee Pannu, Angad Bedi, Vijay Raaz and Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles; was also released in Pakistan and Kuwait.
